Things to doHorse RidingHidden Valley is a horse lover's paradise. There are more than twenty co-op owned horses for the use of members and their guests and some members agist their own horses on the property. The Valley runs supervised trail rides through the magnificent surrounding forests and members ride for free on these trail rides. Some members prefer to take the horses out at other times and are able to do so, given a certain competency level, for a nominal charge. Monthly 'Horse Days' are a major part of the Valleys equestrian activity with expert tuition provided for graded groups. Families with horse-loving members appreciate the enormous cost saving these days represent and many children, and adults, have become competent riders from this activity. Hidden Valley also has a cross-country course plus areas for dressage and show-jumping - a real bonus for those who take their riding seriously. Pool and Tennis Court AreaHidden Valley's 25 metre salt-water pool and tennis courts are set amongst grassy slopes with a wonderful view of surrounding hills. The two courts provide a great warm-up before taking the plunge. There's also a spacious recreation hut with pool table and kitchen plus a covered barbecue area and children's play area. The pool/tennis area is an idyllic place to spread a blanket and enjoy a summer picnic. In the evenings it is used for special social functions such as barn dances and the ever popular camp-oven cook out. The LakeThe picturesque lake complements the tranquillity of the Valley. Here is yet another picnic spot where members and their guests can cool off, try out the rope swing or even swim with the horses.
Golf CourseIt may not be the Royal Sydney and golfers share it with the horses, but Hidden Valley's nine-hole golf course, set against a breath-taking backdrop of hills, is fun and challenging. Play without the embarrassment of experts looking on!
The Bike TrackFor the noisy, adventurous types, there's a one kilometre-long Motocross track located on Hidden Valley property but well out of ear-shot of other recreation and horse riding areas. Members use their own bikes and lockable storage is provided near the track. This provides a great alternative to horse riding and is particularly popular amongst the teenage boys at the Valley.
The Great North WalkHidden Valley lies directly on the Great North Walk approximately 7km North of Somersby and 17 km South of Yarramalong. Walking conditions to Somersby are described as "medium" and those to Yarramalong as "medium - some hard", but in both cases the rewards certainly justify the effort as the scenery is spectacular and the track is generally well maintained. |
